I am a 73 yr old who lives in eastern ND. I collect model 54 Winchesters and some model 70's,Remington varmint specials, and 1903 Springfield's. I have a 22 Hornet in a 54 Winchester and it is close to being my favorite caliber. I reload and like trying to squeeze the best accuracy out a caliber The hornet lends itself to this with its low cost low recoil and report.  I just purchased a Savage 219 in 22 hornet. From what i have learned from this forum It is a 2nd model with a flanged barrel ,Utica made, with markings on the top of barrel and it has the two screw holes on left rear of barrel. I had just made the decision to start selling of my collection, but was lured into buying this 219 by low price and  fond memories of gopher hunting with the single shot rifles such as the Stevens Favorite. Welcome, and thanks for the information on your 219 Hornet.  From your description, you have a hard to find option, a barrel that is drilled and tapped for a side mounted scope from the factory.  Let us know how it shoots, and maybe some pictures of the barrel markings and screw holes?

You got a good 'un if the bore is OK!  Deserves a side mount and decent scope unless your 73 year old eyes are a heck of a lot better than my 74+ ones...

Well I have not shot it yet.
Found a Weaver T1 mount and got a weaver 3/4" g4 scope, removed front sight and plugged holes, removed rear sight it was the wrong one anyway. made a slot filler out of it.  cleaned the barrel, some copper but barrel looks very good to me. bought a trigger shoe for it have not installed yet. Rifle is at the smith having the ejector tamed. It threw an empty case about 20ft. Loaded  about 50 rnds for it using 12.5 grains of Lil Gun, and 40 grain sp sierra's in .223 & .224. will post pics when i get back. I think it has some nice walnut wood.

You gotta watch those Savage ejectors!  An unfired .30-30 ctg. will break glass.....DON'T ask me how I know this.  Just one more reason to wear safety glasses!

finally got out to shoot the 219. I had some 46 gr cast That did not group well.40 gr Sierra's shot well.
 but the best load was Nosler 30 gr varmint grenade over some LIL GUN. 4 shot with a flier  was at 1 inch , i was quite pleased with that. The rifle will probably shoot better than that the vintage 4 power scope was lacking.
