.410 220A Ejection Problem.
« on: October 15, 2017, 09:00:44 AM »
Picked up this gun, took it home and it fired perfectly. Broke it open and nothing happens. The shell is still in the chamber. Put a rod down the barrell to get shell out. Tried 4 different brands of shells with same result.
If chamber is empty the ejector pops out as it shoud. Took it apart and cleaned it with same results.
It does have matching numbers.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Chad

Chad, somehow, I missed your initial post.  When you push the empty shell out, doe the ejector then pop out or does it stay in place?  Are you using old paper shells or new plastic ones?  My main thought is that the ejector spring is weak or the wrong size, and won't push out a shell, even though it is empty.   This is just a guess on my part as I am not a gun smith.  My ejector springs in my spare parts is 29 mm long and 4 mm in diameter.  Is the "ejector starter pin" missing, which would reduce the overall length and slightly weaken the spring?  I hope this helps some.  Please let us know if you solve the problem.

I would say your spring is at least weak as my 28ga will throw an empty a good 10-15 feet! My second thought is maybe to polish the chamber. A bore brush wrapped with #0000 steel wool and oiled will do this nicely w/ rod stuck in a drill. doesn't take much. ymmv Good luck.

I think its a combination of both parts. Unfortunately I messed up the ejector too. I will order a new ejector, spring, pin, and starter spring. I want my daughter to be able to use this classic.
Thanks for all the help.

I finally got around to ordering the parts.  Hopefully I'll be able to post an update after I install them and polish the chamber.

Thanks

OK, got the parts in the mail today.  Out of the 4 parts I ordered, I only used 1.
The spring was a larger diameter, the starter pin wouldn't fit inside of the spring, and the stop pin was too small.  The only part that fit was the extractor.
So I used the old spring, made a starter pin out of a nail, and put the old stop pin back in.  Between this and honing out the chamber with the steel wool wrapped around a brass brush, I am now able to get enough of the shell out to grab it and pull it out.  No perfect, but it works.
Now I have an operational friend for my 220A in 20 gauge.

Also replaced the front sight blade on my H&R 504 revolver.  Fun night!

Thanks for all of the info, tips, and help!
